Cockroaches are insects of the order Blattodea including termites being an ancient group dating about some 320 million years ago.
From 4.600 cockroach species about 30 of them are associated with human habitats; and 4 of those species are known as pests.
The German cockroach specie have the most elaborated social structure based on common shelter, social dependence, information transfer and kin recognition. The cockroaches appear in human culture since classical antiquity and being popular as dirty pests; although the great majority of the species are inoffensive. Studies have shown that roaches developed a collective decision -making when choosing food sources.
